A jury in Ohio indicted a former veteran vice cop on a murder charge Thursday in the death of a 23-year-old sex worker last August, reports say.
Officer Andrew Mitchell, 55, shot Donna Castleberry eight times while working undercover on Aug. 23, the Columbus Dispatch reports. Police said the encounter turned fatal when Castleberry stabbed Mitchell in the hand while the two were in his unmarked police car, the report says.
Both were taken to the hospital. She later died from her wounds.
Mitchell, a 30-year veteran of the force, was indicted on murder and voluntary manslaughterafter the jury ruled the cop had not properly used force in the encounter, ABC reports.
Mitchell recently retired from the department after being indicted in a separate federal case, reports say.
